I have been a resident of Clifton all my life. I can remember those wanting to become police officers, the Clifton Police Department was where many of them wanted to join.
Fast forward to today, and Clifton is being used as a stepping for many starting police officers. Not a fault of their own but due to the inconceivable starting salary of approximately 32,000 - below the county average. Well-trained police officers are leaving for municipalities that pay a higher salary.
We need to close the salary gap. WHY? The answer is that the losing side becomes our residents. Clifton deserves better. Clifton residents should feel safe going shopping and their families and homes are well protected.
